Quiet Shift

Tabkeeper privacy policy

Effective 15 September 2026. This is the privacy policy for the Tabkeeper Chrome extension, published for its Chrome Web Store listing.

What Tabkeeper collects

Nothing. Tabkeeper collects no personal information, no browsing history, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reports. There is no account and no sign-up. We do not sell or share data, because we do not have any.

Where your data is

Network calls

The extension makes no network calls in normal use. It requests no host permissions, so it cannot read or send the content of the pages you visit. It loads no remote code.

There is one exception, and it happens only if you choose to unlock Pro: when you paste a license key, the extension contacts Gumroad's license verification endpoint to check it. That request sends the license key and the product identifier, and nothing else — no tab data, no URLs, no identifier for you or your browser. The result is cached locally so the extension keeps working offline, and it is re-checked periodically. Gumroad is the seller of record for Tabkeeper and handles that request under its own privacy policy. If you never enter a license key, this request never happens.

Permissions, and why each one is needed

Tabkeeper requests no host permissions and no access to any site.

Backups (Pro)

Backups are files that you write, to a location you pick, on your own device or in a folder you already sync yourself. They are encrypted with a key derived from a passphrase you choose (WebCrypto AES-GCM). The passphrase never leaves your browser and is never sent to us; we cannot read a backup and cannot recover one if the passphrase is lost. Free plain-JSON export works the same way: it is your file, written by you.

Importing from other tab managers

Tabkeeper's importers for OneTab, Session Buddy and Toby read a file that you exported from those tools and handed to Tabkeeper. They never contact OneTab, Session Buddy or Toby, never use any account you hold with them, and read nothing but the file you pick.

Children

Tabkeeper is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.

Limited Use

Tabkeeper's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and the listing will carry the new version.
